How measure for replacement springs

PLEASE NOTE, Any variation of your actual spring dimensions will alter counterbalance and affect the overall life of the replacement spring. Here are the instructions on how to measure your existing spring. If you need help, contact customer support at 1-800-829-6002

IMPORTANT

Please Double Check all your measurements

Springs Are Custom Made to Your dimensions

Spring Orientation

The spring shown above is a Right Hand Wound Spring which mounts to the left side of center(Red) End. A spring mounted on the right side of center is left hand wound(black end)Doors that have two springs have both right hand and left hand wound.

STEP 1
Measure The Overall Length Of Your Garage Door Spring--UNWOUND.Take all your measurements from the broken spring. Measure the spring only from coil to coil. Do not include the winding and stationary ends.

STEP 2
Measure the Inside Diameter Of Your Garage Door Spring
It will be one of the following:

1 3/4"
2"
2 1/4"
Raynor Garage Door Springs only

Alternate Method

Look for a number imprinted on the winding end(shown above).

1.75=1 3/4" I.D.
2.00=2" I.D.
If it says Raynor it is a 2 1/4" I.D.

STEP 3
Determine The Wire Size

Measure the length of 10 coils.

Refer to Wire Chart. Example: 10 coils measures 2 1/4" = .225 wire size.

Also Measure the length of 20 Coils
20 Coils measures 4 1/2"=.225 wire size.

STEP 4

Determine Spring Wind.

Standing inside the garage, looking at the spring(s)

If the spring is mounted Left side of center, the spring is Right Hand Wound.

If the spring is mounted on the right side of center the Spring is Left Hand Wound.

Look at the end of your spring and refer to example below.

Left Hand Wind
Right Hand Wind

If you have 2 springs, we highly recommend that you replace both springs.

If your spring wire size does not match the spring chart above, please call for price.

Avoid Having to Repeat The Replacement Process

If your door cycles (opens & Closes) more than 3 times a day, we recommend our High Cycle Option.
An inexpensive upgrade that will double the spring cycle life from 10,000 up to 20,000 cycles.

What is a High Cycle Spring?

A high cycle spring is a re-engineered spring base on your existing spring measurements(See Steps 1 thru 4) creating a DIMENSIONALLY larger spring. A High Cycle spring has the same IPPT(Inch Pounds Per Turn) or torque as the existing spring but has 50% less stress when fully wound, lasting 2X longer. The installation and the number of turns are the same as the existing spring.

(Do not use screwdrivers, socket extensions,Re-Bar or anything else other than correct winding tools)
